Intro to Electric Welding with TIG (GTAW)

Step up your making game by learning to weld!
No previous welding experience needed. A 3+ hour, fast-paced introduction to gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), commonly called TIG (tungsten + inert gas). It isn’t as scary as it sounds. If you can solder, you can weld. Plus tons of online resources to continue learning on your own. See Fat Cat Fab Lab Meetup for next class.

In this class you will learn:

  • Fundamental concepts of welding, cutting, and brazing
  • Different types of welding processes used in industry
  • Proper safety attire and safe working practices
  • Proper equipment set up & maintenance
  • Arc welding carbon steel using the TIG / GTAW process

Please wear long pants and clothing made of natural fibers, with boots or closed-toe shoes. A long-sleeved shirts and a cap, bandana, or hair covering is also recommended. FCFL can provide welding jackets, helmets, gloves, and other safety equipment as needed.

Fat Cat Fab Lab members receive a free second refresher class and certification test scheduled the following week or by appointment.

All students will be required to attend a safety orientation and sign a checklist signifying that they have received and understand the safety requirements before participating in welding activities.
